Painting Description: In the beginning, "Earth" was three blank sheets unified by an arc&em;Canfield's first painting initiated without a sketch or concept. As Kathy painted, she experience energy rising from an unseen core to the arc's surface. The amoeboid forms pulsing across the first panel, and animate lines of white beads or liquid drops created a sense of the natural world. Canfield continued the painting in this spirit. Plant-like structures spring from the arc's surface, above a kind of undergrowth. Areas of the painting appear to be aquatic, with underwater organisms appearing throughout the three panels. The painting was not titled for several months after completion.
